About Us
Founded in 1870, the Rhode Island SPCA is the oldest nonprofit animal welfare organization in the state of Rhode Island and the third oldest in the country. We provide adoption and rehoming services, veterinary care, humane education, training support and pet owner assistance programs. The Rhode Island SPCA is also the only organization in the state that can legally investigate and prosecute cases of animal cruelty and neglect and takes an active role in legislative matters concerning the welfare of all animals in our state.
Supporting the Rhode Island SPCA
As a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, we do not receive any local, state or federal funding nor are we affiliated with any national humane organization. We rely on donations from individuals, businesses, and foundations to provide critical programs and services for the animals and people in the community. Donations should be addressed to the Rhode Island SPCA. The RISPCA is not affiliated with the ASPCA.

Re-Homing and Adoption Services
The Rhode Island SPCA accepts animal surrenders. We take in animals in need of a second chance, including sick, injured, abused or abandoned animals. The Rhode Island SPCA is home to more than just dogs and cats. At any given time, we may have rabbits, ferrets, guinea pigs, or other small animals. Is your new best friend waiting for you? Animal Cruelty Investigation Services
The Rhode Island SPCA is the only non-profit, animal rescue organization in the state that is legally able to investigate and prosecute cases of animal cruelty and neglect. We receive thousands of complaints of animal cruelty each year. We will speak with anyone who has a concern for the welfare of an animal and advise them on the best course of action. We receive thousands of complaints each year and routinely assist municipal police departments respond to calls that involve animals.
The Society is charged with the sole purpose of protecting animal life in all situations and crusading for the rights and welfare of all animals great and small through legal, educational, and investigative means.
Humane Education
Started in 1872, the Rhode Island SPCA is one of the pioneers of Humane Education. We offer programs to local schools, youth and adult groups. We teach people of all ages to understand and care for the animals in their lives and to foster compassion, respect and empathy for all living things.
Volunteer Program
The Rhode Island SPCA cares for over 2,000 dogs, cats and small animals each year. Volunteers assist with dog walking, cat socialization, clerical work, special events and fundraising activities.
Caring for the People and the Animals in our Community
The Marvin Fund
Through the Marvin fund, we offer medical assistance for the pets of many impoverished, disabled and elderly individuals who otherwise could not afford to care for them.

Your tax deductible contributions allow us to continue our important work of giving shelter to homeless animals, prosecuting cases of animal cruelty and neglect, offering assistance to pet owners in need and implementing humane education programs throughout the state and much more. The RISPCA receives no government funding and relies on generous contributions from individuals like you in order to continue our mission.
